The Bishop of U.P., Uttaranchal, and Rajasthan established Nav Sadhana Pastoral Centre early 1982. Drawing inspiration from the Vatican II, the Regional Bishops felt the need of the local church to venture into her pioneering mission activities in North India.
Rt. Rev. Patrick D'Souza, the local Bishop of Varanasi gave dynamic leadership for the establishment and growth of this pastoral centre from the very beginning.
1. To help church leaders to evangelize themselves. 2. To offer in-service training for the ongoing formation of priest, religious and laity. 3. To proclaim the 'good news' to people and build Christian communities of love, peace and justice.
Within 25 years of its existence, Nav Sadhana has grown like a big healthy tree. Today it has three branches:
-organizes courses, seminars, retreats, workshops etc. for priests, religious and laity as ongoing formation to play an effective role in their work of evangelization.
- offers training in media education, street play, animation in communication skills and produces audio and video cassettes on religious, biblical and social themes as an aid to the people those who are in the field of development of the marginalized
- a pioneering college in the field of cultural communication that aims at the internal growth of a person through Indian art and culture especially music, dance and other fine arts.
