NORTH INDIAN BISHOPS’ MEETING
April 14-15, 2016
The members of North Indian Bishops’ Council gathered in the Milan Hall of Nav Sadhana, Varanasi on April 14, 2016 at 9.00 a.m. They were all together twenty Archbishops and Bishops as well as four priests including the Executive Secretary, Rev. Fr. Biju Thottankara. The inaugural session commenced with the lighting of the lamp by Most Rev. William D’Souza, Most Rev. Albert D’Souza, Most Rev.Anil Couto, Most Rev. Vincent Barwa and Most Rev. Eugene Joseph. It was followed by Scripture Reading and Prayer. A scintillating welcome dance was performed by the budding artists of Nav Sadhana Kala Kendra. Welcome Speech was made by Dr.Fr.V.Sebastian, Director, Nav Sadhana, who also screened the documentary on Nav Sadhana, which gives the logistics of the place. The local Ordinary Most Rev. Eugene Joseph welcomed the august audience for a fruitful stay, deliberation and discussion. After a health break, the first day was dedicated to discuss, deliberate, approve the draft of the translation of the Roman Missal. Rev.Fr. Naveen and Rev. Fr. Theodore Lakra presented the draft paragraph-wise to get the approval of the bishops. After a few corrections the draft was fully approved. In the evening at 6.30 a.m. there was a cultural programme presented by the students of Sanjeevani Hostel studying in Nav Sadhana Kala Kendra, Post Graduate College of Music and Dance. The various items were: Welcome Song, Classical Recitation, Prayer Dance – Dhanya Pita, Maa Tuje Pranam Skit with Dance, Patriotic Dance, Fusion Dance – Jeevan Tera. Finally Most Rev. Abraham Viruthukulangara, Archbishop of Nagpur appreciated melodious singing, scintillating dance performance and impacting skit on Mother Teresa. On the second day there was discussion and deliberation on Effectiveness of Hindi Sahitya Samiti, Buland Prajatantra News Paper, Radio Veritas, Translation of Youcat/Vat. II, and Availability of Hindi Bible. The meeting was concluded by 1.00 p.m. on April 15, 2016. Thus, all had a fruit bearing sessions. All were happy about the arrangement and accommodation, cordiality and hospitality of the Director and Staff of Nav Sadhana.
