State Convention of Prison Ministry: February 27-28

A two-day seminar and State gathering of Uttar Pradesh was held at Nav Sadhana Regional Pastoral Centre, Varanasi on 27th and 28th February 2018. Fr. Kasper of Varanasi Diocese, the Coordinator welcomed the participants. The day began with a short prayer by Fr. Kasper.  Most Rev. Eugene Joseph, Bishop of Varanasi inaugurated the seminar and addressed the gathering.

The state co coordinator, Fr. Jesus Amirtham explained the Prison Ministry in India in general. The first resource person was the SSP, Mr. R.K. Bhardwaj who explained in details the high crime rate of U.P. The second resource person was the senior Superintendent of Central Prison in Varanasi who gave the details of the prison rules and regulations and the role of the NGO. Rev. Fr. Sebastian, the National Coordinator explained the purpose of prison ministry to the members present. The second day began with the Holy Eucharist presided over by Most Rev. Eugene Joseph, Bishop of Varanasi and concelebrated by 12 priests. The day was completely dedicated for the sharing of prison ministry experiences.  At the end, the state coordinator thanked the host Diocese of Varanasi, members of the Prison ministry and the director and the staff of Nav Sadhana.
