The Missionary Meeting of the Diocese of Varanasi was organized by Varanasi Diocesan Administrator Msgr. Eugene J. at NavSadhana Regional Pastoral Centre from July 10 to 11, 2014. It was well attended by the catechetical workers and teachers, priests and religious of the diocese. The purpose of the meeting was to evaluate the catechetical activities of the diocese as well as to have orientation and motivation for the missionary activities and to regain the missionary zeal and zest in the persons. The Resource Person was AcharyaAnildev, IMS. He stressed that Missionary work is a community activity centered on the Eucharist. Hence, Eucharistic community does not break the relationship with members, but heals the wounds created by the members to rebuild the community. In short Eucharist heals and does not break. He further stated that the loss of Missionary zeal may be due to wrong motivation, distraction from lower goals and motivations, falling from the track: lack of persistence, plan and programming; It could be consciously moving away from the goal and motivation, boredom of doing the same things, moving away from the community – becoming individualistic, lack of spiritual energy – spiritual bankruptcy like discharged mobile set. It is important to regain the missionary zeal to continue with the same fervor and zest, for which all need to be rooted in God, Christ, Eucharist, and Community. The meeting was concluded by the Administrator stating that it is a team work. Therefore we need to pray, plan and prepare for the regular missionary activities. It is the duty of every baptized Christian; priests and religious are pioneers in the mission as well as we are all missionaries for 24 hours.
The participants were all together 150 in number. All of them were reenergized and remotivated to continue the mission of the Lord. They were also happy and expressed their gratitude for hospitality and cordiality of the Director and staff of the NavSadhana as well as for well conducted missionary meeting by Msgr. Eugene J., Ordinary, Diocese of Varanasi.
